ASAM Level IV treatment services provide 24-hour medically directed evaluation, care, and treatment of substance-related and co-occurring conditions in an acute care inpatient setting. They are staffed by designated addiction-credentialed physicians as well as other mental and general health- and addiction-credentialed clinicians. Such services are delivered under a defined set of policies and procedures and have permanent facilities that include inpatient beds. Some Level 4 programs integrate Level 4 treatment for substance use disorders with Level 4-WM withdrawal management services.
